Documented History
In April of 1966, Shelby Trans-Am car #3 was invoiced to S and C Ford, in San Francisco CA and was delivered to an SCCA Regional race at Camp Stoneman Raceway, Pittsburg CA and driven by Peter Talbert.
In June, this car competed at the second Trans-Am race of the season held at the Mid-America road course in Wentzville, Missouri, driven by John McComb. Car #3 competed with another Shelby Trans-Am, car #10, and finished a respectable 3rd.
The car would go on to compete in another race during the 1966 season at Bryar, in Loudon, New Hampshire, but did not finish due to mechanical woes.
This car had done its part, scoring points, and although the Shelby Trans-Am Notchbacks would only win two of the seven races during the inaugural Trans-AM season, it was enough to secure the Manufacturers' Championship for Ford.
Of the ten original Shelby Trans-Am Group II cars that are known to have survived, six competed only on a regional level and only four actually competed in the Trans-Am series. This car is one of those four cars.
Car #3 was restored to its current state in 1994 by Ken Mann of Medford Oregon.
